Naperville – Leanne Meyer-Smith, firm principal with Newman Architecture of Naperville, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Northeastern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. She will serve in that position through December, 2008.
The AIA-NEI provides professional focus for members and opportunities for activism in the community and within the chapter by enhancing and promoting the profession of architecture.
“We wanted Leanne to serve on the board for a number of reasons,” says Corda Murphy, executive director of AIA-NEI. “In addition to her prior service with other chapters, she has always been willing and eager to talk with students and young people interested in the profession of architecture, showing by example the importance of not only giving back to the profession but to nurture the future generation of architects. And as a female principle of a firm she brings to the boarda viewpoint, sense of leadership, andability to make things happenthat will make the board not only a better representation of the membership but alsocontinue its commitment toprovide direction for the profession and value to its members.”
Meyer-Smith’s former AIA service included as president of AIA Student Chapter and the Champaign-Urbana Section of AIA Central Illinois. She is currently a member of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet Bishop’s Council of Buildings, Illinois Association of School Business Officials, and serves locally on several church committees.
